For the first time in Survivor history, there is no initial deployment to the location of Survivor: Guatemala-The Maya Empire. Instead, the 16 contestants are plunked down in the middle of the Guatelmalan jungle with no ceremony or thrills. The first surprise for the castaways is the sudden inclusion of two leftovers from the previous season's Survivor: Palau, Bobby Jon Drinkard and Stephenie LaGrossa. Once introductions have been exchanged, host Jeff Probst divides the contestants into two tribes, the Yaxha and the Nakum. The first Reward Challenge is a grueling 11-mile chase through the jungle, while the first Immunity Challenge involves a "paddle battle." By the end of the third day, the Nakum tribe has voted one of its number out of the game.
