Synopsis by Brian Whitener

A compelling film about finding one's place in a turbulent world, Sun Searchers tells the story of a young girl, Lutz, wandering, literally and figuratively, through the ruins of post-WWII Germany. In Berlin, quite by happenstance, she meets the kindly Emmi Jahnke, who, identifying with the abuse she has suffered at the hands of men, decides to take her in, and Lutz, for the first time, has a stable life and home. After Emmi runs into Jupp König, a young Communist whom she hid from the Nazis almost 20 years ago, the two women decide to take jobs in the uranium mine where König works. At the mines, Lutz meets a young man, Guenter Holleck, who she sees briefly, even moving in with him, before her unresolved personal problems drive them apart. Caught between a difficult past she did not ask for and a difficult present which offers her few opportunities, Lutz is slowly drawn into a maelstrom of conflict brewing in the mines -- a series of conflicts which will determine her place in the world.
