Director Hans-Christof Stenzel has parlayed the oddities, eccentricities, unique regional speech, and other traits of a small Bavarian town into an effective comedy. Aside from the entertaining dialogue in Sufferloh, some absurdity creeps into the action as well. A middle-aged man has taken up housekeeping in an abandoned chapel, while various characters come in and out of the story, including one young woman who is as likely to show up in the altogether as she is fully dressed.
