Because of an old family grudge, Abner Carewe is out to get his nephew, Robert (Robert Warwick). First he hires a woman, Suzanne (Clara Whipple), to destroy Robert's happy marriage, but she fails. Then, as a (literal) last resort, he wills Robert a million dollars, believing that such a huge sum will ruin him. It does cause the husband and wife (Gerda Holmes) to grow apart as they go outside of their home in search of fun and recreation. But they are brought back together by the illness of their little daughter (Madge Evans). After she recovers, they agree never to accept a sudden fortune again.
