When his wife leaves him, Reverend Robert Martin (William H. Tooker) loses his faith and travels from town to town, stealing from those who attend his sermons with the help of a gang of pickpockets and con artists. His daughter Julia (18-year-old Norma Shearer in her first important role) plays the organ and is completely unaware of the real purpose of her father's "good work." One of the pickpockets, Mary Forrest (Ruth Dwyer), is caught by her mark, a rich and handsome man who falls in love with her and lets her go. Julia finally discovers that her father is a crook, and after he tries to explain things to her, he is blinded during a fire. Meanwhile, Mary's gang sweetheart, Steve Gregory (Walter Miller), is caught and sent to jail. So she reforms and is able to have a romance with the wealthy man. Steve reforms too, and when the Reverend's wife (Myrtle Morse) returns, so does his sight. As for Julia, she settles down with a nice young man. This picture, written and directed by one of D.W. Griffith's lesser protégés, W. Christy Cabanne, apparently no longer exists.
