Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Although there's little information that is easily available on this British-made comedy, it's probable that Me and My Gal is merely the American title for 1921's Squibs. Actress Betty Balfour made several pictures about Squibs the flower girl and her adventures. One notable features of the film (to Americans, at least) is the girl's enjoyment of a pint now and again: keep in mind that these were the days of Prohibition, and women weren't generally allowed to nurture this type of personality quirk. Squibs lives with her father, a cheap bookmaker (Hugh E. Wright), and her sister Ivy (Annette Benson), who not only loves to drink, but also hangs out at sleazy dance halls. Ivy has attracted the attention of a tough character named Bully Dawson (Cronin Wilson). When Bully tires of Ivy, he tries to force himself on Squibs. But the rounder is sent packing by Squib's sweetheart, a bobby by the name of Charlie Lee (Fred Groves). Above the objections of both families, Squibs and Charlie insist they are meant for each other -- and they must have been, because they're featured in at least two more "Squibs" films. If you're wondering whether there's any relation between this picture and the 1932 film of the same title which stars Spencer Tracy and Joan Bennett, compare the plot lines and draw your own conclusions!
