Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Debuting courtesy of Granada Television in 1956, the British game show Spot the Tune was a virtual carbon of the American quiz program Name That Tune. The contestants were required to identify songs within a short space of time, using musical clues doled out by singer Marion Ryan and orchestra leader Peter Knight. Among the series' hosts was Desmond "Des" O'Connor, who went on to a lengthy career as a variety performer. By the time Spot the Tune left the airwaves in 1962, the series had toted up 209 half-hour episodes.
