Before he got into pictures, Maurice B. Flynn, better known as "Lefty" Flynn, was a Yale football hero. It only made sense, then, that most of his films were of the action-adventure genre. In Speed Wild, risk-taker Jack Ames (Flynn) enjoys racing motorcycle cops. When he finds out his friend, police commissioner Herbert Barron (Charles Clary), has been called on the carpet for failing to stop the smuggling of Oriental picture brides, Ames offers to help out by joining the force, as a motorcycle cop, of course. It turns out that Ames is in love with Mary Bryant (Dorothy Dwan), and he has a rival in Wendell Martin (Frank Elliott), who just so happens to be the head of the smuggling gang. In addition, Mary's brother, Charles (Ralph McCullough), has been forced to participate in the gang's activities. Ames has to save both Mary and her wayward sibling from the gang. When Mary is kidnapped by Martin and taken aboard his ship, Ames calls out the whole police force to come to her rescue. The gang, of course, is rounded up, too.
