Twenty million Russians died in World War II. Part of the Soviet Secret Archives documentary series featuring footage made available by the fall of the Soviet Union, this first of three videos concerning the Russian Front during World War II features rare footage from the early years of the war, before the United States had entered the fray. On June 22, 1941, Hitler unleashed Operation Barbarosa, and attacked his ally, the Soviet Union, from the Baltic to the Black Sea and by the 28th had captured Byelorussia. Volume one of this three-part documentary features film of the 900-day attack of Leningrad, in which 6,000 tons of bombs were dropped. Narrated by Robert Powell.
