Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The principal character in this British sitcom was Yorkshireman Edgar Rowley (Brian Glover), frequently described as "the Archie Bunker of the North." The bigoted Rowley had a particular dislike for anyone hailing from the Southern regions of Great Britain, deriding these unfortunates as "softies," or worse. The fun began when Edgar lost his job and was forced to move himself and his family southward in search of new employment. Appropriately carried by Yorkshire Television, the seven half-hour episodes of South of the Border were broadcast from August 30 to October 11, 1985.
