Synopsis by Alice Day

When an elderly family member begins to show a severe decline in mental abilities, a decision must be made regarding adequate care. Bringing in aid workers is not always the answer, because the disruption in routine may cause stress, and the affected family member may reject an outsider. In Something Should Be Done About Grandma Ruthie, the filmmaker chronicles the events in the household when the grandmother refuses to cooperate with hired caregivers, and will not agree to enter a care facility. Unable to provide the care she needs, the family must resort to forcing her to accept a nursing home.
