Synopsis by Mark Deming

Playwright turned filmmaker Carmel Winters offers a disturbing portrait of a wildly dysfunctional family and the consequences of their emotional troubles in this drama from the UK. Sandra (Aisling O'Sullivan) agrees to sit for a television interview after becoming a figure of scandal in the tabloid press. Sandra's fifteen-year-old son Stephen (Stephen Moran) kidnapped the young son of a neighbor and held him captive in his grandfather's abandoned home; Sandra has been handed much of the blame in press coverage of the crime, and she's taking the opportunity to present her side of the story. But Sandra's interview does little to exonerate her; instead, it offers a painful look into one part of a damaged family whose neuroses have been passed from generation. As we watch while Sandra verbally spars with the press, the film flashes back to Stephen's kidnapping and what truly happened, and later we follow Sandra as her own abusive nature comes to the surface following a night at the pub. Snap received its world premiere at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.
