Synopsis by Mark Deming

The streets, music, art, culture, and knowledge -- put them all together you get SMACK, and that's the title of this video magazine which offers a first-hand look at what's going on in the world of hip-hop. Smack, Vol. 1 features an interview with 50 Cent, Eminem, and Busta Rhymes in which they talk about their beef with Ja Rule. The program also features Beanie Sigel and State Property as they talk about the genesis of their hit "Can't Stop, Won't Stop"; Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes teaming up with Fam-Lay for some spontaneous beat-boxing; a visit to Miami with Cam'ron and the Diplomats; a stop off in Harlem with Sean "P. Diddy" Combs; footage of the Clipse in concert; and more.
