Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Director Jackie Salloum's Slingshot Hip-Hop undertakes one of the first documentary-style forays into the colorful world of Palestinian and Israeli hip-hop. A relatively nascent musical genre in the Middle East, urban music is only beginning to latch onto a substantial fanbase and to sprout vocal stars within the said region. With Slingshot, Salloum and her crew visit a number of Arabic and Jewish vocal artists determined to write their own histories and express the daily realities of their lives and cultures via hip hop. Artists who appear in the film include Arapeyat, ABEER, DAM, PR and Mahmoud Shalabi.
