Synopsis by Hal Erickson

During its first few years of existence, Britain's Sky One satellite service offered an impressive array of original programming, much of it inspired by "terrestrial" TV series of old. One such program was Sky Star Search, a talent show which combined elements of Star Search and The Gong Show. Each week, a pair of celebrity judges would assess the talents of hopeful young newcomers. Since literally anyone could qualify to appear, the acts ranged from passable to horrible, mostly the latter. Hosted by Keith Chegwin, who treated the whole affair with the derision it deserved, Sky Star Search debuted in 1989.
