This patriotic melodrama was "personally supervised" by early film mogul Thomas Ince. It's a sure bet that he didn't put his name on it because of its excellence -- although it is better than average -- but to please the American Legion, which is mentioned in all its advertisements. The plot concerns a war hero who returns home determined to give up his old ways as a crook. Bud Doyle (Milton Sills) is still being hounded by the cops, and both his wife (Marcia Nanon) and a former associate, a dishonest politician, want to do him in. The nefarious pair send him to jail on a trumped-up charge. He manages to escape, however, by leaping over the wall onto a moving train and grabbing the rope ladder of an aeroplane -- quite a thrilling scene, if not particularly realistic! But he falls from the plane and winds up in a disabled soldiers' hospital, where a plastic surgeon does wonders on his face. Now that he's unrecognizable he goes to the district attorney and helps him clean up the town. He also weds the daughter of the doctor who operated on him.
