Synopsis by Hal Erickson

According to the trade magazine Variety, this Vitagraph film was inspired by a popular vaudeville act. When the woman he loves turns down his gift of an imitation pearl necklace, a young man heads to the seashore to lick his wounds. While playing his lute, the hero conjures up a beautiful "siren" from the sea. She disappears beneath the waves, whereupon the young Romeo drops his lute and dives in after her. Pretty soon, every jilted suitor in town has gathered at the seashore, hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive Siren. Meanwhile, our hero returns to the surface with a genuine pearl necklace, a gift from the Siren -- and it is with these pearls that he wins back his land-locked sweetheart.
