Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Julia Swayne Gordon and Anita Stewart, two of Vitagraph's most popular contract players, were co-starred once again in the 5-reel Sins of the Mothers. The "mother" in this instance is Mrs. Raymond (Gordon), a chronic gambler. Alas, Mrs. Raymond's otherwise viceless daughter (Stewart) inherits her mom's gambling mania. Even after marrying a crusading DA (Earle Williams), the girl continues to frequent her city's illicit gambling dens. Ultimately, she is killed during a police raid staged by her own husband. Sins of the Mothers came near the end of the "exposé" cycle sparked in 1913 by Traffic in Souls.
