A young man named Andreas (William Moseley) falls for an Italian beauty named Francesca (Eugenia Costantini) at his sister's wedding, but their romance is cut short when Italy declares war on Austria during World War I. Later, while fighting on the front lines, Andreas journeys through the Alps on a mission to find Francesca, and shelter her from the coming storm.
