Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

This sympathetic biography of Slovak writer Bozena Slancikova-Timrava captures the ambiance of the village life that fascinated her and the understated pathos of her own life as well. Divided into six different vignettes as a homage to the writer's assertion that any life can be told in five sentences (hers needs that extra something), the stories feature some of the more dramatic or character-revealing incidents in her past. In one segment, her closeness and affinity to the peasantry is brought forward; in another, she is raped and the reaction of her beloved aunt is rather cruel. In other scenes, the isolation of her personal life is shown in simple terms. Because of its subject matter, this specialized drama is best for audiences already predisposed to literary biographies.
