Synopsis by Sarah Ing
Rock guitar improvisation is the heart of great performances. Shred is not Dead proves that superstar sounds can be learned. Guitarist Terry Syrek teaches this lesson in fast licks. His techniques are basic exercises in skill acquisition. With a firm hand and stretched fingers, the student is introduced to sweep-picking. Syrek plays with the pentatonic scales in an interesting way, allowing the player to assume lead guitar position. He also goes into the Japanese scales and Lydian flat seven. With Syrek's guidance, shredding gets creative. He concludes with a chance to play with a live band.
