As chapter six of The Shadow of the Eagle reveals, Jean (Dorothy Gulliver) and her father, Nathan Gregory (Edward Hearn), suffer a blown tire but are otherwise unharmed. They manage to escape Moore (Bud Osborne) and Boyle (Yakima Canutt) but a return to the carnival is ruined when Craig McCoy (John Wayne) finds himself framed in yet another skywriting incident. Apparently believing him to be guilty, Jean demands that the carnival performers wreak a terrible vengeance by beating a confession out of the young man.
