Synopsis by Rebecca Flint Marx

After Aidan (John Corbett) moves out, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) finds out she's one Manolo away from financial destitution when the bank refuses to give her a loan to buy back her apartment. Realizing she's managed to spend 40,000 dollars on shoes and that another relationship has failed, she plunges into a downward spiral of existential torment and asks what it's all worth. Paying a visit to Big (Chris Noth), who writes her a check to tide her over, Carrie realizes that it's not worth much, and ripping up Big's check, turns down offers of loans from both Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon). However, when Charlotte (Kristin Davis) announces her new volunteer position at the Museum of Modern Art, Carrie gets pissed and demands to know why Charlotte, she of the cushy blue-blood lifestyle, won't offer her a loan. When Charlotte tells her that she's not responsible for Carrie's finances, Carrie responds that Charlotte, who still sports her engagement ring, isn't one to be going on about financial independence. Later, the two apologize to one another, and Charlotte offers Carrie her engagement ring to use for a loan. Meanwhile, Richard (James Remar) finally declares his love for Samantha with the help of his gay assistant, Roger (Robert John Gomes), and Miranda finds a way to ease her raging, pregnancy-challenged hormones with the help of Steve (David Eigenberg).
