After learning that their respective exes, Steve (David Eigenberg) and Aidan (John Corbett), have moved on to new girlfriends, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) are led to question whether the problems in their relationships stemmed from the men or from themselves instead. The question is exacerbated for Carrie when she receives a call from Big (Chris Noth), who asks her to meet him for lunch. Carrie agrees to, but when she tells Miranda -- who disapproves of her decision -- the friends get into their first big fight. Fortunately, Miranda gets new perspective when she runs into Steve, who allays some of her insecurities, and she and Carrie make up before Carrie meets Big. Meanwhile, Charlotte gets a surprise visit from Trey (Kyle MacLachlan) at her apartment, and an even bigger surprise when Trey seduces her. Afterwards, the two have a serious discussion about their problems, one that yields no new decisions. For her part, Carrie makes a new decision during her meeting with Big, who suggests they resume their old ways; deciding that it may be a good idea in theory but not in practice, she heads over to Samantha's apartment, where Samantha (Kim Cattrall) has invited the girls to join her and some transsexual prostitutes for a few drinks.
