Synopsis by Alice Duncan

The Sensational 70's documentary series offers viewers a look at "the best and worst" moments of the decade -- presenting excerpts from film and television to review the politics, significant events, developments in science and technology, sports, and entertainment of the time. Memorable topics from 1975 include: Saigon surrenders to the Communists, and Americans in Vietnam are evacuated; the American merchant ship Mayaguez is seized by Cambodian forces, and 38 members of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps die in rescue operations; Margaret Thatcher is elected head of Britain's Conservative Party; the Suez Canal is reopened; a United Nations resolution states that "Zionism is a form of racism"; Saudi Arabia's King Faisal is assassinated; two assassination attempts are made on President Gerald Ford; New York City has financial difficulties; the U.S. Apollo and Soviet Soyuz spacecrafts successfully link up in space; Teamster Jimmy Hoffa disappears; actor Charlie Chaplin is knighted by Queen Elizabeth II; Saturday Night Live premieres, with George Carlin as host.
