Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The Russian We Will Come Back is a sobering catalog of atrocities perpetrated by the Nazis during WWII. Some of the scenes are culled from authentic newsreel footage; others have been specially re-created. The main plot concerns a band of courageous Russian peasants who make a valiant stand against the Nazis despite the latter's policy of wholesale slaughter. Like many propaganda films of the era, We Will Come Back leans towards the verbose, with many scenes undermined by excess verbiage. On the other hand, the grim images of warfare and its aftermath are unforgettable.
