Synopsis by Mark Deming
Andres Segovia was, quite simply, the most important classical guitarist of the 20th century, an artist whose stunning technique and desire to broaden the guitar's repertoire (commissioning new pieces for guitar and transcribing the works of other composers for the instrument) made what was once seen as a "novelty" item within art music into a legitimate vehicle for gifted soloists. The Segovia Legacy is a documentary which offers a look at Segovia's life and career, including footage of the great man performing, teaching a master class, and discussing his early years in Spain. Hugh Downs narrates.
