Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The daughter of a police lieutenant, Mary MacLaren (played, curiously enough, by an actress named Mary MacLaren) rebels against her father's strictness by picking up such antisocial habits as smoking and drinking. Mary's reckless behavior costs her father a valuable promotion, and nearly costs Mary her virtue. After her own father is forced to arrest her at a gambling joint, our heroine is certain that she can't descend any lower. She tries to commit suicide but is rescued by a raffish but handsome young gent who spends the rest of the picture "reforming" the girl. More of a stunt than a motion picture, Secret Marriage was filmed entirely on location, using genuine law-enforcement personnel in the secondary roles.
