Second to None was one of the few Canadian films of the 1920s to gain recognition below the border in the "States." The story begins as two adolescent sweethearts, Bill (Micky Brantford) and Ina (Aggie Brantford), are separated when the girl's mother dies. Hoping to be reunited with her seafaring lover, Ina stows away aboard his ship -- only to be caught in the middle when the ship is torpedoed by a German U-boat. Apparently the only survivor, Ina is rescued by a British "man o' war" commandeered by Brian Douglas (Ian Fleming). Several years pass: now a lovely young woman (and now played by Benita Hume), Ina has fallen in love with and married Cmdr. Douglas -- but wavers in her loyalty when her "lost" sweetie Bill (now played by Moore Marriott) makes a sudden reappearance. There's many an unexpected plot development (including an entanglement with a foreign spy!) before hero and heroine can be reunited. Many of the scenes in Second to None were filmed on the decks of a real-life battleship, the H.M.S. "Tiger."
