Originating as a comedy series on BBC's Radio 4, Second Thoughts made the transition to television on May 3, 1991 -- not, curiously enough, over the BBC, but as part of the London Weekend Television line-up. James Bolam headed the cast as magazine artist Bill Macgregor, who on the fringes of middle age fell in love with Faith Grayshott (Lynda Bellingham), a fortysomething divorcée with two teenaged children. Hoping to marry Faith, Bill met with formidable opposition from her kids, Hannah (Julia Sawalha) and Joe (Mark Denham), not to mention his own troublesome ex-spouse, Liza (Belinda Lang). During the TV version's first four seasons on the air, virtually all the scripts from the original radio version were recycled, with the series' running gag -- Bill's inability to get Faith to the altar intact. By the time the series reached its conclusion after 49 half-hour installments on October 14, 1994, the two protagonists were still very much unattached. Second Thoughts proved popular enough to warrant a sequel, Faith in the Future, featuring many of the same cast members.
