Synopsis by Mark Deming
Jimi Hendrix was far more than just another guitar hero who died young -- he was a composer and sonic innovator who had a profound effect on the shape and form of contemporary music. This documentary by D.A. Pennebaker features interviews with 11 major musicians who discuss Hendrix's work and the impact it had on their own art. Interview subjects include performance artist and musician Laurie Anderson, hip-hop trailblazer Chuck D. from Public Enemy, jazz artist and film composer Mark Isham, the great L.A. rock band Los Lobos, vocalist Cassandra Wilson, blues harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite, and gospel mainstays The Five Blind Boys of Alabama.
