Synopsis by Mark Deming
Scientists offer a look at the first and greatest battle for human survival in this documentary. National Geographic: Search for the Ultimate Survivor examines the evolution of humanity's earliest ancestors, and speculates on recent theories that Homo erectus -- long regarded as the earliest predecessor to human beings -- was pitched in an ongoing battle for supremacy with a larger and stronger humanoid primate which lived in the Southern portion of Africa. Featuring both interviews and dramatic reenactments, National Geographic: Search for the Ultimate Survivor was produced for the cable television network the National Geographic Channel, and first aired in April of 2005.
