Synopsis by Alice Day
Will mankind make it to Mars? There are many developments being prepared for just such a mission, and in Scientific American Frontiers: Journey to Mars, viewers can get a look at some of the technology involved for the trip. One overriding concern is fuel, and scientists have found a way to utilize the atmosphere on Mars to produce enough for the return trip. Astronauts train for repair to spacecraft by using virtual reality simulations, and host Alan Alda tries the centrifuge to see how he would work in different gravity situations.
