Synopsis by Alice Day

This episode of the series, Scientific American Frontiers: Beyond Science? explores the world of pseudoscience. Alan Alda, host of the shows, takes a look at the claims of dowsers who say they can find water underground using sticks, the possibility of aliens at Roswell, therapeutic touch, zero-point energy, and handwriting analysis. Scientists depend on the scientific method for evaluating the reality of such claims, and discuss its importance in separating fact from fiction. Few of the possibilities mentioned can withstand the tests put forth by scientists.
