Synopsis by Mark Deming

A decidedly ordinary woman attracts an unusual amount of problems in this comedy from Japanese director Ishii Yuya. Sawako (Mitsushima Hikari) has been living in Tokyo for five years but still feels like a fish out of water in the big city; she's had five different jobs since moving to the city, just as many boyfriends, and she doesn't feel like she's hit the jackpot with either. Sawako earns her living at a toy company where she's constantly belittled by her colleagues, and she's dating Kenichi (Endo Masashi), a single father who dotes on his daughter Kayoko (Ahira Kira) but seems more interested in recycling than in Sawako. Sawako has started to think that she should give up on life in Tokyo and go back to the coastal town where she was born and sign on with the family business. However, in her hometown Sawako is regarded as the black sheep of the family who though canning clams wasn't good enough for her, and she's a target for even more abuse when she and Kenichi decide to give it a try. Kawa No Soko Kara Konichi Wa (aka Sawako Decides) was an official selection at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival.
