Savage Roses is a low-budget urban drama from writer/director James Tucker based on the stage play Los Rosas Salvaje by Joshua Nelson. Tough Latina homegirl Toro (Misha Gonzales) is part of a street gang in a Bronx neighborhood. She befriends femme single mother Michelle (Tania Galarza), a newcomer to the neighborhood, and the close friendship leads to romance. Eventually Toro defends her girlfriend in a violent confrontation with abusive Pedro (screenwriter Nelson), the father of Michelle's baby. Savage Roses was screened at the 2003 San Francisco Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.
