Synopsis by Leslie Birdwell

This second episode in the Savage Earth series examines some of the most devastating earthquakes in the 20th century, beginning with the 1989 quake in California when the always-present threat residing in the San Andreas fault set loose waves of devastation. The 1985 incident that hit Mexico City and quakes in Kobe, Japan, are featured. Include are interviews with survivors whose eyewitness accounts make the human cost all the more real to viewers. The causes of quakes are also examined. Their destruction seems entirely unpredictable and random, but understanding their behavior may save lives and property. Narrated by Stacy Keach.
