Synopsis by Nathan Southern
The gentle, coming-of-age Indian drama Sanam Hum Aapke Hain unfolds in a village where a romantic triangle develops between two young men and a woman. Sooraj and Pratap have been the fastest of friends since childhood but remain well aware of the socioeconomic rift that separates them; Sooraj hails from the lower middle class rungs of society, while Pratap's family is that of a wealthy land owner. Both fall deeply, desperately in love with Rajani, the daughter of the village sarpanch (or democratically-elected governmental head); despite the obvious economic problems posed by the situation, Rajani feels most drawn to Sooraj. Yet time and fate take their toll, and whils Sooraj is temporarily estranged from his would-be bride via a trip to Africa, Rajani and Pratap end up together - setting the stage for explosive, impassioned conflict when Sooraj discovers the truth.
