Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

Neal Hart, a distant relative of western star William S. Hart, both directed and starred in the title role in this action-packed silent western about a Texas Ranger searching for the murderer of his father. Salty Saunders is assigned to trail Scarface Wheeler (Patrick McGreary), who has just been released from prison and obtained a job as foreman on the Flying X Ranch. Working as a ranch hand, Salty overhears Wheeler conspire with Hampton (Bill Gillis) to rustle neighbor Howell's cattle. With the help of Hampton's young niece, Betty (Violet Sheldon), and Scarface, who has turned state's evidence, Salty unmasks Hampton as the man who killed both his own and Betty's father. As it turns out, Hampton isn't Betty's uncle at all, but an imposter. The convoluted story was written by Alvin J. Neitz, a future western director who also worked under the name Alan James. Salty Saunders was a William Steiner production.
