Synopsis by Violet LeVoit
The story of pioneering hip-hop artist Lolita Shanté Gooden (better known as "Roxanne Shanté"), who rose to prominence in the burgeoning rap scene of 1984 at the age of 14 with "Roxanne's Revenge," a rebuttal to U.T.F.O.'s "Roxanne Roxanne." Her "answer track" sparked a slew of musical replies and became a pop-culture phenomenon. Chanté Adams plays Roxanne Shanté. Mahershala Ali co-stars. Written and directed by Michael Larnell.
