William Shakespeare's tragic drama of doomed love between two young people was brought to the classical stage in Gounod's operatic adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, and vocalists Roberto Alagna and Leontina Vaduva bring the story to life in this production, recorded in 1994. Charles Mackerras conducts the orchestra of the Royal Opera House of Covent Garden, where this performance was staged.
