Rolling Stones was based on a play by Edgar Selwyn, best known as one of the co-founders (with Samuel Goldfish of the Goldwyn Studios. The film was described as a "farcical drama," which was less oxymoronic than it sounded. As hero Dave Fulton (Owen Moore) and heroine Norma Noggs (Marguerite Courtot) billed and cooed at one another, the supporting players kept the film afloat in the roles of various transients, bindlestiffs and ne'er-do-wells. Some of the biggest laughs were generated by Alan Hale Sr. as Jerry Braden, an easygoing indigent who joins a group of like-minded people on a cross-country tour. Rolling Stones was directed by Dell Henderson, fresh from the Keystone comedy mills.
