Despite recent victories, Earth is still unable to communicate with Space Station Liberty and Moon Base Luna; the Robotech Masters have blocked the communications link in order to cover their movements. The United Earth Government decides that it's time to change that situation, and perhaps test the Robotech Masters' fleet's defenses while they're at it. Marie Crystal and Dana Sterling both volunteer members of their squadrons for the mission. Dana brings Bowie Grant and Angelo Dante. As both shuttles prepare for launch, Marie and Angelo are concerned when Dana starts acting extra ditzy as the mission starts. When a computer malfunction totally destroys the other shuttle before they can even engage the enemy, their worst fears are realized; Dana goes into shock just as the Masters' assault crafts surround the shuttle.
