Synopsis by Nathan Southern

Produced to commemorate the 155th anniversary of the death of German Romantic composer Robert Schumann, this biographical documentary begins during Schumann's 18th year (1828), and discusses the events that characterized his life from this point until his final year of 1856. The work places its strongest emphasis on evoking Schumann's personality, via a collage of contemporary depictions of him; it also interpolates performances of his work by such giants as Hermann Prey, Daniel Barenboim, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Leonard Bernstein.
