Synopsis by Mark Deming

Robbie Robertson gained his greatest fame as the lead guitarist and songwriter with the Band, but there's a lot more to his career than that, as this video makes clear. From his early days as a barnstorming R&B guitarist in the '50s to his work in the '90s with the Native American group The Red Road Ensemble, Robertson has gained recognition as a guitarist, songwriter, producer, actor, and film composer. This documentary examines all sides of his career, featuring appearances by many of the artists he's worked with, including Eric Clapton, Daniel Lanois, Martin Scorsese, and Barry Levinson.
