Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Finnish director Edvin Laine was represented by no fewer than three films during 1946. Like its predecessors, Ristikon Varjossa was hailed as one of the finest efforts to emerge from Finland's postwar film industry. Laine does double duty as star of the film, playing an ex-convict who has a difficult time going straight. Providing a romantic balm to Laine's travails is Mervi Jerventaus, who likewise has reason to avoid the Authorities. All that transpires leads to a moral of Biblical proportions. The film's symbolic title translates as Hunting Shadows.
