Yet another of future MGM director Richard Thorpe's many inexpensive silent oaters, this film starred newcomer Buddy Roosevelt in the title role, a carefree drifter turned deputy sheriff, who is charged with bringing in a notorious outlaw known as "The Hawk" (Joe Rickson). Trailing "Red" Turner (Al Richmond), The Hawk's right hand man, Buddy Roberts finds himself taken hostage by the gang. The plucky deputy manages to escape, however, and returning to town, hides out at the home of his girlfriend, Estelle Morgan (Brenda Lane). The film ends with the ubiquitous shoot-out on main street, naturally with "Rip Roarin'" Roberts the winner. Leading lady Brenda Lane also starred in the 1925 serial The Flame Fighter. Rip Roarin' Roberts was based on a magazine story, A Man of Action, by Robert J. Horton.
