Emerging Canadian filmmaker Jeff Barnaby uses Duncan Campbell Scott's Indian Act amendments of 1921 as the framework for this psychological revenge thriller set on the fictional Red Crow Reservation in 1976, and centering on the simmering conflict between a willful teenage drug dealer and a corrupt Indian agent who attempts to dictate her fate. In accordance with the Indian Act, every child up to age 15 must be enrolled in an Indian Residential School System. At 15, Aila (Kawennahere Devery Jacobs) already earns enough money selling drugs to pay the "truancy tax" that will keep sadistic school official Popper (Mark Antony Krupa) off her back. Aila's most trusted partner is her uncle Burner (Brandon Oakes), but upon learning that her father Joseph (Glen Gould) will soon be released from prison, Aila realizes that her days as a teenage kingpin may be coming to an end. Meanwhile, when her drug money is stolen, the stage is set for a confrontation that can only end in tragedy.
