Few things, apparently, will halt the truly determined would-be movie star. Even after viewing a documentary like this one, which chronicles in agonizing detail the hopes and disappointments of the actor (and this film's director) Tod De Pree who, like his peers, has developed a skin with the toughness of a rhinoceros. The aspiring performer is shown making the rounds he is sent on by his agents, enduring endless humiliations just for the chance of trying out for (and not getting) bit parts in ads, movies, and television shows. In between, he is given chump treatment by personal trainers, hair sylists, head-shot photographers, plastic surgeons, and "colonic therapists." In this film, his big chance comes when he is not rejected out of hand for a tiny, tiny role in a television sitcom, Doogie Howser. In the meantime, if this funny film is his calling card, it's a pretty impressive one.
