Synopsis by Mark Deming

A woman trying to answer questions about her past learns a few things she wished she never knew in this supernatural horror story filmed in Singapore. Charity (Hiep Thi Le), an American woman of Asian descent, has been having a series of powerful and vivid dreams where she visits a jungle in Malaysia and encounters her late mother. Unable to get these visions out of her mind, Charity persuades a group of friends to join her for a trip to Malaysia, where they'll take an extended hike in the jungle. While making their way through the jungle, the visitors encounter a beautiful native girl who has a powerful and disturbing presence. The next morning, even though the strange girl is out of sight, the hikers feel her disorienting presence even more strongly than before, and Charity is soon convinced they've encountered a Pontianak, a creature who, according to local legend, is a human embodiment of evil who takes revenge on people for their misdeeds of the past. Return to Pontianak also features Eleanor Lee, Fadzlinda, and Steve Banks.
